01 / Project brief

What the project required.

The challenge

XRM Media needed a Burbank property with sound stages, edit bays, offices, parking, event space, and mission-critical production infrastructure. After site selection, the work became a four-year transformation of more than 30,000 square feet.

The facility required two diverse fiber paths with automatic failover, upgraded stages and client areas, a rooftop event venue near Burbank Airport, a later 1,500-person back-lot venue, a mobile nine-monitor video wall, and a custom 28-foot traveling broadcast trailer.

The approach

JAZ helped identify the property and coordinate the transaction, financing, insurance, utilities, remodeling, gate, lobby, stages, mezzanine, screening room, production areas, network, security, and automation.

For the rooftop venue, JAZ secured access, coordinated a 100-ton crane and FAA NOTAMs, and installed a broadcast shipping container. The later back-lot venue added 4,000-pound ballasts, truss towers, color-controlled lighting, high-output sound, permanent 400-amp production power, branded hospitality, red-carpet, and guest areas.

The network used Cat6a, multiple 10-gigabit systems, Dante, two ISPs entering opposite sides of the building, Cisco Meraki automatic failover, fiber to a production container, RAID storage, Verkada security, and Control4 automation.

JAZ engineered a rolling three-by-three wall around nine existing monitors with a cantilevered ballasted base and integrated tiler, Apple TV, AirPlay, and HDMI. A custom 28-foot trailer added five 75-inch displays, gaming, broadcast space, a 30-foot PTZ mast, roof platform, PA, stabilizers, and integrated production controls.
