01 / Project brief

What the project required.

The challenge

JAZ first negotiated a two-year rooftop lease from Contract Services on behalf of the client. The parking structure’s seven-foot-one-inch clearance prevented normal production trucks, forklifts, and a 20-foot broadcast container from reaching the fifth level.

A 100-ton crane was required near Burbank Airport, bringing FAA coordination and NOTAM requirements. The venue also needed broadcast control, 10-gigabit networking, event sound, theatrical power, lighting, hospitality, VIP, and sponsor areas without permanent roof penetrations.

The approach

JAZ managed negotiations, planning, engineering, procurement, crane logistics, FAA requirements, safety, and commissioning. A crane placed the broadcast container and large equipment on the roof, where the container housed amplifiers, Cisco networking, fiber, 10-gigabit switching, DMX, and broadcast connections.

Custom 4,000-pound ballasts supported vertical truss. High-output sound covered approximately 1,500 guests, while 400-amp transformers and company switches provided generator-free production power. Branded tables, 12-foot flags, lounge furniture, plants, shade, red carpet, check-in, VIP, and programmable RGBW lighting completed the venue.
